Wongamat Beach is located in Pattaya’s Naklua district, around a 900-meter walk north from the Dusit Thani Hotel at the northern end of Pattaya Beach. At low tide, you can reach it by following the coastline beyond the Dusit Thani along Naklua Beach.
The southern end of Wongamat Beach (photo above) forms a crescent where it meets Naklua Beach near Naklua Soi 18, with its main stretch extending about 1.2 kilometers northward.
Its main stretch terminates at a rocky outcrop, beyond which the coastline continues as a series of smaller beaches and bays fringed with condos and hotels, stretching for around 800 meters towards the Sanctuary of Truth.
There is no major road nearby, so it’s quite secluded, with many people you’ll find on it being guests or residents of one of the many hotels and condos that have direct beach access. Overall it’s a beach with chilled out holiday feel.
With a large number of true beachfront hotels offering direct beach access, Wongamat Beach is one of the best areas to stay if you’re looking for beachfront hotels in Pattaya.
Many of the chairs and loungers on the beach are for hotel guests. There are a few vendors renting beach chairs and loungers, although nowhere near as many as you’ll find on Pattaya Beach or Jomtien Beach.
If you can’t find a lounger, you can always bring your own beach mat or folding chair. Just bear in mind that there is very little natural shade, so bringing an umbrella is recommended.
You also always have the option of taking a short walk to nearby Naklua Beach, where there are usually plenty of chairs and loungers for hire underneath the shady trees, along with some good spots for bathing.
There are safe swimming zones, and although the water is a little murky, it doesn’t stop most people from taking a dip.
Several beachfront restaurants and bars are dotted along the beach, including Surf & Turf, Glass House Silver, the Beach Club at the Pullman Pattaya Hotel G, and the popular Bamboo Beach Bar just beyond the northern end of the main beach, making Wongamat a great place to enjoy lunch, dinner or a few sundowners by the sea.
An interesting fact about Wongamat Beach is that it takes its name from the first hotel built on the beach, the Wong Amat Beach Hotel. The hotel was named after its owner, Boonwong Amatayakul, and the site is now home to the Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort, seen center and right on the first image on the page.
