These Thailand Songkran photos (below) are typical modern day Songkran scenes, and you’ll notice they all feature what looks like scenes of great fun, and more importantly they all feature motorcycles. I wish you a happy and fun filled Songkran, but I would also like to remind you that unless we follow a few commonsense rules Songkran can be extremely dangerous, proof of which is reflected by the annual Songkran fatality statistics.
Riding a motorcycle around Thailand is fraught with danger at the best of times, but during the Songkran Festival just about every traffic law and safety rule is broken, or simply not enforced during this relaxed and carefree Thai holiday period. Relaxed is good, fun is good, carefree is good, but riding a motorcycle drunk, without a helmet, and having freezing cold water thrown in your face can only be described as extremely dangerous. Enjoy the Songkran Festival, but leave your bike at home, and respect those who are foolhardy enough to celebrate their Songkran on the back of a motorbike by avoiding throwing water in their face.
