Sun, sea, sex and sin, plus cheap accommodation and cheap food have all contributed to Pattaya’s immense popularity. And the city has thrived on it’s famous attributes, perhaps “thrived” is a slight understatement, because in reality Pattaya has not only thrived, it has grown quite possibly too big for it’s own high heels boots.
New condo buildings, hotels and shopping malls have invited a large number of tourists, weekenders and long term residents to the city. The most visible sign of the population boom is the frustratingly heavy traffic. Much of which is confined to Pattaya’s narrow roads and sois. The modern booming metropolis which is current day Pattaya is built more or less on the infrastructure of Pattaya the sleepy 1960’s fishing village.
Even during my 15 years in Pattaya I have seen many dramatic changes. Soi Diana is a perfect example of Pattaya’s phenomenal growth, before the Areca Lodge and LK hotels, before Soi LK Metro, Soi Diana was a quiet, little used dirt track.
For better or for worse, Pattaya is growing in size and population. Take part in the poll, and let’s see what the majority of people feel about Pattaya’s seemingly boundless growth.
