Pattaya Songkran 2012 – Page Four

You may have heard the term “The New Year came in with a bang” or “New Year came in with a whimper”, in Thailand the Buddhist New Year comes in with an almighty splash and then escalates into the biggest water fight in the world. In Pattaya Thailand, the Songkran Festival goes on for several days, slowly building to a crescendo on the 19th of April when the whole city celebrates by getting wet, drunk and somewhat happy.

Try and imagine a carnival procession of vehicles loaded with people on parade, celebrating and having fun, the streets are lined with bystanders waiting for each vehicle of the parade to approach. Now imagine each and everyone of them throwing and squirting water at each other, that’s what happens in Pattaya during the Songkran Festival, it’s just one big wet, happy, drunken, dancing, soggy party.
