After you’ve sampled Pattaya’s culinary delights it’s time for ‘variety night’, everybody has their own idea of what makes a good night out. Some people like to be alone with their thoughts, just sitting in a quiet little bar on some back road and just watch the world go by. Some like to be in amongst it, to be the party animal. Others like to go on a bar crawl, some like the go go bars. Live music is the next mans taste.
Beer bars are numerous especially in the tourist orientated areas of town, it’s estimated there is upward of 2000 beer bars in Pattaya, and there are literally row upon row of them. Usually open with seating around the bar and sometimes a handful of tables and a few handfuls of hostesses, some have live music, pool is a popular pastime at many beer bars, as is connect 4. The beer bars are usually a good starting point before moving on to a go go bar, just about all go go bars play loud music, some of them play almost unbearably loud music. the attraction is obviously the girls and their performance, which varies from bar to bar. You can sometimes feel like you shouldn’t be watching or rather the girls are not too happy being watched, maybe that’s just an impression which stems from the sometimes mundane, dull show which they are putting on, yet others contrast hugely, the girls appear to be getting a real kick from their show. You can even watch Russian go go girls now, there’s some variety for you.
Pub style or themed bars are usually closed and have air conditioning and are set out in a traditional style, such as English pub style, many of these have a weekly program of events, such as a quiz night and darts night. For the party animal there are the disco’s, when you’ve done your bar crawl and you’re all go go’d out you can just dance the rest of the night away, or as they say ‘trip the light fantastic’. Have fun, and don’t get too drunk.
