Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep is 1,676 meters above sea level on top of Doi Suthep mountain, some 15 kilometers from Chiang Mai City. It dates back to the 13th century. Its importance as a place of worship and prominent mountaintop location make it Chiang Mai’s most visited tourist attraction.
So popular is Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep that the temple even has its own ATM machines at the entrance. And for those who can’t make the long walk up the steps, this temple even has its own elevator to the top.
